My First Time Feeling Like A Celebrity

The event came so impromptu… and trust me, I’m always that girl who has outfits ready for events I never get to attend.

That evening, I was in my hostel, making a client’s hair for her matriculation, when I got a random DM on Instagram. At the time , I didn’t use to check my inbox like that because my followers weren’t that much, and I wasn’t selling anything.

Then the person called me.

And he called me again… on Instagram. I was immediately worried. Like, how am I getting a call from someone I don’t even follow?

He sent another message just to get my attention. When I finally opened it, the first thing that came to my mind was, this has to be a scam. I told my friends. We went back and forth. After a lot of convincing… I decided to go.

Can you believe it? My very own meet and greet!

It was a two-day event, and I went with my roommate because honestly, I was still in shock. I couldn’t fully believe that someone actually saw what I do and wanted me there.

In that moment, that was the highlight for me.

Because beyond the outfits, beyond the event it gave me something I didn’t even know I needed, CONFIDENCE.

I restyled an old pair of ankara pants with rope detail in front into a top I wore to the event. I wore my neckpiece as a waist bead to keep the flow of the African aesthetic. My white pants were thrifted from a while back. I then paired the outfit with off-white heeled sandals.

My hair? A mess. So I pulled together a cute head wrap, layering scarves into it to give it volume and structure. My earrings were from an online vendor, and my bangles were gifted.

When I got there, one of the welcome team members looked at me and said, ‘You are a work of art.’
That moment alone made everything worth it.

I walked in… and suddenly, all eyes were on me. I won’t lie, I wasn’t entirely comfortable. But that… is a story for another day.

Let’s just say, at some point, I got a little scared. Wardrobe malfunction kind of scared.

It’s about appreciating my humble beginnings. This is not just a feeling, it will soon become my reality sooner than i think.
