What’s your rat race? Let’s talk about fashion.
I went to church yesterday… and something really struck me.
The rat race exists even in the house of God.
I have never been a trend runner because I started my fashion journey from nothing. I am a born DIY creator!
So feeling oppressed by new bag updates or dress designs never bothered me. I never liked the idea of wearing the same thing as everyone else. I never belonged to that race.
The race I belonged to was something I picked out from church yesterday. It struck me that some ladies never repeat an outfit to church, even myself too. It is a lot of pressure, because you get sad when you no longer have a new shoe or bag to feel confident.
The enemy cheats us by making these objects and accessories rule over us.
Please, I am not saying looking good is a sin, but please let’s be very conscious. What’s the motive behind always making sure you’re fully glammed to church?
Fashion has quietly become a competition.
And if we’re honest, many of us, myself included, have been part of it.

There was a time I would limit how often I went to church…
just because I didn’t have something new to wear.
Or because I didn’t want to repeat an outfit.
That’s the fashion rat race.
I didn’t grow up with plenty.
I was raised by a single father; he had bigger things to worry about than matching outfits. 🥹
I could wear the same clothes to church three times in a row.
So I learned to make do.
No handbag? I turned parts of my dress into one.
When I finally started buying things for myself, I chose pieces I could wear in multiple ways.

But still… the pressure followed me.
The need to look new. To feel enough.
Clothes became my confidence.
My cover. My identity.
Until I found Jesus.
And He showed me something deep…
that clothes had been covering me in ways only He should.
Because God is not moved by outfits.
He’s not impressed by trends.
He wants you as you are.
Some of us have built confidence on clothes,
but Christ offers something deeper: identity.
You are beautifully and wonderfully made.
You are not in competition with anyone.
If another woman shows up looking her best,
you don’t need to compete,
you can create.
Ask the Holy Spirit for creativity.
Re-style what you already have.
There is beauty in simplicity.
“It’s all in the mind.”
My father always says, “Good things never finish.”
So why are we rushing?
Be content with what you can afford right now.
Because it’s not in the clothes, it’s in who you are.

Let’s drop out of the fashion rat race.
Let’s choose peace over pressure.
Let’s choose identity over trends.
Let’s build a life of intentional, sustainable fashion.
